The National Basketball Association (NBA) held its annual draft on 26 June 2008 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The Number 1 pick went to the Chicago Bulls, who selected Derrick Rose, a point guard from Memphis. NBA draft prediction: Derrick Rose was the Number 1 pick in the NBA draft.

Rose had an outstanding season with Memphis, scoring an average of nearly 15 points per game with five rebounds. He had a free-throw average over 70 percent.

Beginning in 2005, the NBA has allowed players to declare eligibility for the draft any time between high school graduation and the end of their college eligibility. Rose just finished his freshman year of college.
