England Council Elections 2008 Results
On Thursday, 1 May 2008, local council elections were held throughout England in 137 English Local Authorities.
In each of England’s 36 metropolitan boroughs, one-third of the council was up for election. Eighty-one district authority councils were up for election in whole or in part; most councils saw one-third of the council seats open. Future prediction for England’s council elections in 2008 results: the Conservative Party won over half the seats. In many local authorities, no single party won control (NOC).
Prior to the local authority elections, Conservative leader David Cameron urged voters to “Vote Blue, Go Green,” saying that Conservative councils had saved taxpayers money, were committed to fighting crime, and planned to address social problems.
