2008 Shanghai International Film Festival Review

The 11th Shanghai International Film Festival was held from June 14, 2008 to June 22, 2008 in a variety of settings throughout Shanghai, China.

Held for the first time in 1993, the first Shanghai Film Festival features short films and documentaries, art films and independent films, as well as other categories of film. This year, the event screened more than 300 films and awarded four major prizes.

Director Wong Kar-Wai presided over the film festival jury.

Issues related to the recent catastrophic earthquake in China and political tensions in Tibet cast a cloud over this year’s event. Event coordinators announced that a portion of each ticket sale would be dedicated to relief efforts in Sichuan province, hard hit by May’s earthquake.

So it be? Maybe . . .
