2008 Fed Cup Semifinal Winners

The Russian women’s Fed Cup tennis team competed against the USA at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on April 26 and 27, 2008. These two teams met in 2007 and 2005, and although the USA leads the match-up overall, the Russians came out on top in each of their last two meetings.

Playing for defending champion Russia were Dinara Safina, Elena Vesnina, Svetlana Kuznetsova (who replaced Maria Sharapova in the semifinal round), and Anna Chakvetazde. In the second semifinal match-up of the Fed Cup, the People’s Republic of China battled Spain at the International Tennis Centre in Beijing on April 26 and 27, 2008. These two teams have not played each other since 1984, when China won.
