2008 Canada Parliamentary Election Results

The 2008 election to name members of Canada’s House of Commons was held on October 14.

The Conservative Party, behind Prime Minister Stephen Harper, won a majority of the open seats, although the party did not win a clear majority in Parliament. Election prediction: the Conservative Party wins the 2008 Parliamentary election in Canada.

Prime Minister Harper dissolved the Parliament on September 7 and called for a new election. It was Canada’s third general election in four years.

Canada’s Parliament consists of a Senate, whose members are appointed, and a House of Commons, whose members are elected to 5-year terms by popular vote.
