BBC Television’s reality series, “Blizzard Race to the Pole,” aired its first episode on 3 August 2008.

The show recreated the historic race to the South Pole by Captain Robert Falcon Scott and Roald Amundsen. The team that represented Amundsen’s trek reached the South Pole first. Television prediction: Amundsen team reaches the South Pole in 2008 Blizzard Race to the Pole.

In 1912, Scott’s entire team perished in its quest to reach the South Pole; Amundsen and his team reached their destination safely.

For the 2008 recreation, BBC selected team members that resembled as closely as possible the individuals on the original trek and outfitted them with identical equipment and supplies. In 2008, no participants were lost.
